Plyms Prototype Sloop
MIGNON - Sloop August Plym 1905, completely refitted
Some boats transcend time without ever losing their grace. MIGNON is one of them.
It was designed in 1905 by August Plym, who could be called the Swedish Herreshoff. Like Nathanael Herreshoff in America, Plym shaped the golden age of Scandinavian yachting in the early twentieth century, with sailing yachts as fast as they were elegant. At 17 meters in length, this prototype is a living testament to that era. It has retained everything that makes it noble: a wooden hull with clean lines, a long keel, an authentic teak deck and a tiller that directly connects the helmsman to the sea.
MIGNON has been completely refitted and reinforced to face the choppy Mediterranean waters. It can therefore be sailed properly, and not merely admired at the dock.
Its sail plan says everything about its character: a mainsail of 98 m², a genoa of 58 m², a solent of 40 m², and two spinnakers, one symmetrical of 200 m² and one asymmetrical of 160 m². In light winds, it glides. When the breeze picks up, it shows itself to be powerful and seaworthy.
It is a boat of rare elegance, for an owner who wishes to bring to life a page from nautical history. It is equally suited to classic sailing or traditional yacht regattas, or simply at anchor, where all eyes turn toward it.
